October: 20/10 + 27/10 — both days 17:00–20:30

Birth Preparation in English is held in small groups and is intended to you regardless of how you plan to give birth. Whether you are expecting your first child or extending your family, whether you have a partner or wish to bring a birth support person, you are very welcome here.

Course Programme

Day 1:

  • Introduction to the course
  • Anatomy and hormones of birth
  • Rebozo techniques during pregnancy and birth
  • The onset of labour and the stages and progression of birth
  • Breathing techniques for labour

Day 2:

  • Continuation of the birth process
  • The role of the support person and the birth environment
  • The experience of contractions and pain management
  • Mental relaxation (e.g. affirmations and visualisation) and physical relaxation techniques
  • Additional examinations and “bumps along the way” – induction, vacuum-assisted birth, and caesarean section
  • Birth of the baby and the time immediately after birth
  • Movement, birth positions, and pain-relieving pressure for the lower back and pelvis

Our goal with the classes is to help you develop realistic expectations of birth and to provide you with practical knowledge about what you can do yourselves when labour begins. Techniques for pain management and coping with contractions are inspired by evidence-based hypnobirthing methods, combined with our many years of experience working as midwives in a hospital labour ward.

The role of the partner or birth support person is a central part of the course. We aim to create strong teamwork around the person in labour, where everyone understands their role. You will learn about choices and considerations before, during, and after birth, and how to navigate the birth process—whatever it may bring.

We believe that there is no “right way” to give birth. A positive birth experience depends on many factors, including the course of labour, its duration, intensity, communication, collaboration with the midwife, and more. What matters most to us is that you know your options and feel empowered to start conversations about what the right choices are for you in each situation.

Therefore, we will cover both the spontaneous, “ABC” birth process as well as births involving additional examinations or challenges along the way. We cannot predict exactly how your birth will unfold, but we want you to leave with tools for many different scenarios. For this reason, we always teach a variety of both mental and physical relaxation techniques.

Birth Preparation in English is taught in small groups by instructor and midwife Anna or Mathilde, both of whom have many years of experience with birth and birth preparation.
